Weekend Lowdown 2nd – 4th Feb 2024
It’s February, and the ‘real world’ racing season is getting ever nearer, unless you’re an endurance racing fan when we had the Daytona 23H 58M this past weekend. We have a number of different races to keep you going in terms of Sim Racing this weekend, including short intense races, endurance races, and some oval action to boot. This is your Weekend Lowdown for February 2nd – February 4th 2024.
Over time we will be adding content from other broadcasters and series, so if you would like to be included please email me at vt.topsecar@liW. Don’t forget that you can check out our upcoming events list at the following URL (Or by visiting the Upcoming Events link from the main menu). Again, we will soon be opening this up to the public, so hang tight if you want your event listed in our directory! You can also subscribe to our weekly newsletter by dropping your email below.
Friday 2nd February
We have the third round of the NGK-NTK Esports Cup, taking place at Imola. Ever since they removed the final chicane at this track, it’s become synonymous with close racing and closer finishes. The Toyotas are perfectly suited to this track which still has a number of technical challenges in Sector 2, especially through Acque Minerali. We will have the full event on RaceSpot TV, and live updates on RaceSpot News.
Following this we have another week of Friday Night Primetime with the iRacing IMSA Series, for Round 8 of the championship. After the insanity of the three classes of cars going around the Green Hell in Germany, this time we go back to a more ‘IMSA’ setting at Sebring, which of course plays host to the second major event of the IMSA Season with the Sebring 12 Hours.
The drivers in this race will ‘only’ have to race for 45 minutes, but a technical and sometimes narrow track can make it feel like much longer if traffic doesn’t work as planned. Expect to see some fireworks on track, both in terms of in class battles and intra-class antics.
Saturday 27th January
We’ve actually got ANOTHER Saturday off! We will however be bringing you a couple of articles that we really should have written earlier this last week, including:
- A ‘wishlist’ for the 2025 iRacing Daytona 24 Hour Race
- What possibilities exist for the IndyCar iRacing partnership, and which should come first.
Why didn’t these come last week? British winter flu. That’s why. Must Try Harder.
Sunday 28th January
Sunday sees the Porsche Esports Carrera Cup Deutschland return to RaceSpot TV for another round of their championship. This is Round 3, taking place at the ultra-fast Monza. This series takes place on Rennsport, a new racing simulation developed by the games publisher Competition Company, which is hosting the leading sim racing league ESL R1. All participants of the PECCD will be competing for a total prize pool of € 25,000, racing on traditional circuits around the world in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992).
In addition, we have the third round of the 24H Series Esports, as they take on the jewel in the crown of British Motorsports in a 6 hour event. For over a decade, the folks behind the 24H Series Esports have been running events on the iRacing platform and are respected for their series administration and running of events. The series includes live race stewards and penalties, and places a key emphasis on fair, clean racing.
Your Sunday Night Nightcap is the PRL NASCAR Cup Series, which heads to Round 5 at Iowa Speedway. One of a number of series that are run by PRL and broadcast on RaceSpot TV, this event sees drivers head to the The Fastest Short Track on The Planet, which has played host to IndyCar and NASCAR Xfinity Series events, before being added to the NASCAR Cup Series for 2024. It also perhaps has one of the coolest logos of any racetrack in the world, intermersing the initials of Iowa Speedway with 7 8, representing the track’s 7/8th of a mile length.
