1400 votes were cast in the second RaceSpot TV Primetime vote, where the Sim Racing community gets to decide what we broadcast two nights a week. After a tense vote in the GT category last time out, it was the turn for the Open Wheel voters to duke it out, and the result? Literally too close to call.

After ineligible votes were excluded, it was impossible to pick a winner between the Verizon IndyCar Series and iRacing Formula Renault 2.0 championships, who ended up tied. On one hand you have one of the most vocal communities on iRacing, on the other, one of the newest, but with a passionate fan base. One implores some of the fastest racing on the service, with a unique road and oval balance, and the other involves close quarters racing, seeing action throughout the field and draw dropping passes.

So after much deliberation, we are pleased to announce that we will broadcast BOTH the Verizon IndyCar Series, and iRacing Formula Renault 2.0 Series this coming season, who will join the iRacing Prototype and GT Challenge, winners of the GT Vote, returning to the iRacing Schedule after a multi-season departure.

The TV Schedule for the season will be as follows:

Wednesdays:                    Proto GT @ 5:45PM GMT

Fridays:                                Verizon IndyCar Series @ 8PM GMT

Sundays:                              Formula Renault 2.0 @ 4:45PM GMT

We have chosen to place the Verizon IndyCar Series broadcasts on Fridays to avoid clashes with other IndyCar broadcasts that take place on RaceSpot TV on Sundays. The Sunday Formula Renault 2.0 race also saw some fantastic racing last season, which we hope will be replicated this coming campaign.

Talking about the results, Wil Vincent, lead commentator for RaceSpot TV, and the creator of the Primetime initiative said:

After last season’s vote, we knew to expect some fireworks as the Sim Racing community had a chance to vote for what we broadcast yet again. It’s great to be again commentating on some Multi Class racing, as we enjoy that so much over here on RaceSpot TV, and we look forward to some fantastic battles.

In terms of the Open Wheel vote: WOW. It’s been too close to call the entire time, and even though the Formula Renault guys had the advantage as the incumbent, the IndyCar community launched an all-out voting campaign. Broadcasting them both seemed by far the most logical solution, and it’s going to be great fun!

Congratulations to the three series, and the communities that voted for them. The RaceSpot Primetime initiative has quickly become one of the most embraced in Sim Racing, and we look forward to bringing you some fantastic coverage again over the next 3 months.

Drivers, start your engines!
