Hugo Luis, the 2011 iRacing World Championship Grand Prix Series Champion has announced that he will be stepping down from the 2016 Season, to concentrate on other ventures. Luis has 19 victories to his name, planing him second in series history, and of course, he is the only other driver other than Huttu to win a World Title of Grand Prix Racing.
Talking about the situation, Luis commented:
These have been the best experiences I’ve ever had in Sim Racing. Having the opportunity to race against the best in the world in the pinnacle of Sim Racing series was a privilege. But now is the moment I feel that I should take another path, another aim.
And that’s why I wish every single driver here, all the best and all the luck, specially to my team VRS Coanda Simsport, who have been like a family to me. And not only Coanda, but everyone who have been cheering and supporting me through the years, like Jack Basford back in the 3id Motorsport times, the whole brazilian community as a whole, and the iRacing community, that haver given me the motivation to do my best and achieve what I couldn’t never imagine I could achieve: Being a champion in the this series and having multiple victories.
Thank you everyone, and good luck to all drivers!
Wil Vincent, lead commentator for the series offered the following thoughts about hearing the news:
There’s no doubt that Hugo is one of the best in the world. One of only 3 drivers to ever come close to Huttu in a full championship campaign, and the only one to beat him!
Hugo’s a great friend, and I know that this hasn’t been easy for him. What’s next? Who knows? Perhaps Blancpain in 2017? Just go out and have fun? Whatever happens, I know this won’t be the end of this celebrated driver’s career.
We’ll provide more details when we know, including comment from Coanda Simsport.
